However, keep in mind that peel and stick and traditional wallpaper has different application techniques.

Peel and Stick wallpaper hanging guide

Before hanging the wallpaper:

First, check if the material has been received in good order and has not been damaged during transportation.
Remove all old wallpaper, paint or whitewash, as well as any traces of inks or crayons.
Make sure the walls and/or boards are smooth, solid, dry, and free of mold or algae.

If you have freshly painted your walls, we suggest not hanging the wallpaper for at least 2 weeks to ensure the paint has dried completely, so your freshly installed wallpaper doesn't peel off of the wall the next day.

Gather your tools:

To ensure a smooth application process you will need:

  • A Level
  • A Squeegee
  • A Utility knife
  • A Measuring tape
  • A Scissors

How to hang peel and stick wallpaper:

1.

When you've unpacked your wallpaper, we suggest unrolling the panels & letting them stretch for at least an hour to help with the installation process (if you have the floor space that allows this).

2.

Now it's time to start the wallpaper installation process.  Find a level spot on the left side of your wall. The level spot is necessary to ensure the wallpaper doesn't suddenly lean upwards or downwards  (usually ceilings and walls aren't 100% straight and it's quite hard to notice this with the naked eye).

3.

Pull back approximately 10 inches (25cm) of the backing paper from the top of the panel for an easier start.

4.

Apply the first panel starting from the top and remove the backing paper as you go. Don't pull off all the backing paper at once, as the back of the wallpaper may stick to itself.

5.

You can use a squeegee (with round angles) or another smoothing tool to smooth out the wallpaper & remove any air bubbles that may have formed. When you've completed the first panel, continue to the next one. .

6.

When all the panels are in place, cut off the excess material from the top/bottom of the wall as well as from any electrical sockets, etc.

7.

When finished, give the wallpaper a brief smoothing once more to ensure it has stuck properly to the wall surface. We also suggest repeating this step after a week or so.

Wallpaper removal:

Start at the top corner and gently pull firmly, evenly, and very slowly, working parallel to the surface. Be careful not to overstretch the material. If you encounter resistance, we recommend heating the area with a regular blow dryer on the HOT setting to weaken the adhesive and ensure easy removal from the surface.

Unpasted wallpaper hanging guide

Before hanging the wallpaper:

The usual procedures for non-woven wallpapers apply. As a general rule, the surface must be dry, stable, evenly absorbent, clean, plain, and smooth. Old wallcoverings should be removed completely.
Wallpaper primer, such as PRO-977 Ultra Prime®, is recommended for best results and easier removal.
Once you have unpacked your wallpaper, we suggest unrolling the panels and letting them stretch overnight to help with the installation process—that is, if you have the floor space that allows this.

For the wallpaper to stick properly, be sure to cure freshly painted walls for at least 30 days before hanging the wallpaper to ensure that the surface is completely dry.
Our wallpaper is non-pasted; thus, hang using the “paste the wall” technique with paste for non-woven wallpapers or heavy-duty PVA-based wallpaper glue. Multiple panels are hung edge-to-edge.

Gather your tools:

To ensure a smooth application process, you will need:

  • A Level
  • Wallpaper paste or Wallpaper glue
  • A Roller or Brush
  • A Flexible smoothing tool with round corners
  • A Sponge
  • A Utility knife

 How to hang unpasted wallpaper:

1.

Lay out the panels before you start in order to verify the positioning of the wallpaper panels.

2.

Now it's time to start the wallpaper installation process. Using a pencil and a level, draw a light line down the wall (plumb line). This line will be the starting point for hanging. Mark a perpendicular line so that the first length can be hung at 1" (3 cm) from the corner. Be sure not to make the mark too dark. Otherwise, it may show through lighter colored papers.

3.

Using a brush or a roller, apply an even layer of adhesive in the location where the first two panels will go. We recommend using Roman PRO-880 Ultra Clear® (for US customers), Henkel Metylan Direct® (for EU customers), or a similar adhesive. Be sure not to paste the whole wall as adhesives applied too far in advance may dry out before the wallpaper is hung. Be careful not to get glue on the design. If that happens, clean it off with a damp cloth/sponge immediately!

4.

Move the first panel to the correct location, beginning at the top and ensuring that the wallpaper is straight. It's best to leave about half an inch at both the top and bottom in order to better trim the paper afterwards. After you’ve properly hung your first piece, you should flatten out any air bubbles with the smoothing tool. This will also ensure that the wallpaper adheres correctly. Begin at the top of the wall, continually moving down to smooth and adhere your paper, working carefully to make sure that any extra adhesive doesn't seep out. It's best to refrain from using rough tools such as hard plastic squeegees that can mar or rip your wallcoverings. Always take care to wipe up any extra adhesive with a damp cloth or sponge before it dries. It is much more difficult to remove paste once it has dried.

5.

Once you have properly installed the first panel, continue positioning  the next pieces one panel at a time, aligning each seam against the other one, and making sure they don't overlap. Again, ensure that you quickly use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe up any extra paste from the seams or paper. In order to achieve the best results, we recommend using a seam roller to ensure proper adherence and a smooth look.

6.

When all the panels are in place, trim off any excess wallpaper at the ceiling and skirting board with a ruler and utility knife; always move the ruler while keeping the knife in the cut. When cutting the wallpaper, make sure to use a sharp paper knife to avoid tearing the paper.

7.

After the wall is complete, avoid any drafts and temperature/humidity changes for 24 hours to ensure that the wallpaper adheres properly.

Wallpaper removal:

When installed using a strippable adhesive (for example, Roman PRO-880 Ultra Clear®), non-woven wallpaper can easily be removed without damaging walls. On installations that may have used a more aggressive wallpaper adhesive, non-woven wallpaper can be removed using Roman’s wallpaper and paste removal tools and concentrate.
Remove wallpaper by peeling the wallpaper off—slowly up or down at a 90-degree angle from the wall.

Tip: Wall damage can be minimized or eliminated by using a quality wallpaper primer such as PRO-977 Ultra Prime® and a strippable adhesive such as PRO-880 Ultra Clear® during installation
